For NJ transit bus: make sure you ask which way it's going to the driver because sometimes the bus signs are wrong! They stop at the north end of the platform. Keep walking till you see the NJ Transit timetables. You can pay by cash, card, or the app. The app is confusing for first time users but I recommend figuring it out. Besides that, the buses are surprisingly good, fast and cheap. If you're going to NYC, bus+PATH takes you there for $4.90 and is frequent enough during the day.
