What riders say

Reviews for Terminal A are mixed, with many travelers praising the facility as a modern, aesthetically pleasing upgrade while others report severe frustration with navigation, connections, and technology. Positive feedback highlights the terminal's bright and spacious design, plentiful natural light, clean restrooms, thoughtful family amenities like a playground, and an expanded selection of food and retail options, alongside efficient covered parking and manageable security checkpoints. Conversely, substantial negative feedback focuses on the difficult connectivity between terminals, citing the lack of a direct AirTrain link that forces long walks or shuttle rides, as well as the need to re-clear security during transfers. Travelers also criticize malfunctioning self-service kiosks and automated gates, payment processing issues with non-US cards and Apple Pay, inefficient security setups, limited gate seating, expensive dining options, absent boarding announcements, and instances of poor customer service from dining, airline, and accessibility staff.

Woow.. #3 billion was spent on this new terminal and I guess there are still some things missing but let's focus on positive things... it got the largest investment the state has ever received from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. it has 33 gates with the ability to handle an estimated 13.6 million passengers annually. (not all of them are fully functional now). several spaces were sensor-enabled and "smart," including check-in, security, and the doors of departure gates. The check-in hall had tall ceilings and white walls which brings bright natural light. There were plenty of self-check-in (60 kiosks) and bag drop kiosks that accompanied the traditional check-in counters. Past security and into the departures hall, Terminal A looked refreshed with more towering windows and modern panels on the ceiling. ofcourse eatery outlets like Shake Shack, Kiehl's, Starbucks, The Office Tavern Grill, Kitchen Step, Bluestone Lane Coffee, Mediterranean fare, and Jersey Mike's Subs are there. Restroom areas are clean, ample sitting arrangements with more amenities. Everywhere you turn, there are reminders of Jersey culture, from fun trivia to artwork I was here last week to catch the United flight to Tampa and got a chance to spend some odd 2 hours at this new terminal. Air Canada, American Airlines, JetBlue, and United Airlines operate out of the new terminal upon opening on January 12, 2023. United Airlines operates out of both Terminals A and C. Drop & Pick up: the shiny Terminal A includes four lanes for curbside drop-off and pick-ups. it has displays showing passenger pickup #. Great to see the overall progress.

Excellent terminal has been built. As of now it’s the best terminal of Newark airport. Ample covered parking space. Heated passage from parking to terminal building. 6 large advance carousel for luggage’s. Excellent arrangement for the travelers.

UPDATE - 3/19/26 Located 15 miles southwest of Midtown Manhattan, Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) is one of the primary airports serving the New York City region and a major international hub. It provides access to thirty major airlines. Each year, over 42 million passengers fly out from here. Last week, my partner and I left out of Terminal A, which was a brand-new, state-of-the-art terminal with 29 gates designated for domestic and regional flights via JetBlue. This was a repeat performance after 3 years for me but a first time for my partner. Once one clears security, you'll be on the upper level of the central plaza area, with expansive views of the departure hall. From the soaring ceilings to the plethora of natural light to the eye-catching artwork, the new terminal is simply stunning. Despite airports across the country facing long TSA checkpoints amid the partial government shutdown with spring break increasing travel across the country, we arrived very early, and it was manageable. Check the bottom of the Newark Airport’s homepage; there is a section titled “Security & Customs Wait Times,” which lists estimated wait times for general and TSA pre-check-in lines.

Love new updates in terminal A. Looks fresh and modern. Some features as lounge chairs throughout the terminal are great idea. Some greenery in the back is nice. And kids playground near gate 16-22! Very thoughtfully!

Flew through for connection again on April 12. Unbelievable… didn’t think it was possible to get worse, but it has. Not about people, friendly given circumstances… or facilities in the new terminal (shiny new)… all about inconvenience and difficulty connecting to or from it to any of the other terminals. Diamond platinum on Delta, global service on United, hit most major airports in the US and international… can’t think of a good comparison for the inefficiency and inconvenience of this new terminal. Bureaucratic NY design and planning at its best. Has made Newark my least favorite airport in the country by far. ——————- Wow… if United books you a connection in Newark through terminal A and C… book a different airline, airport, anything to avoid… 25 plus min, pain to go through shuttle transport

I was looking forward to flying out of Terminal A today because I knew it was under construction for the past few years. After thinking I missed my terminal from extra dead stops on the AirTrain, it was a VERY long walk to reach terminal A - that just doesn’t make sense? Also with all the shiny lights, spaciousness and new very expensive and unaffordable food places, I had nowhere to sit to wait for my flight. I ended up having to sit a few gates away after they boarded their flight so I could have a seat to wait for my flight. Definitely need more convenient and abundant seating like Terminal C. To spend that much money for a new terminal to accommodate people became the most inconvenient for the customers flying.

Nice new terminal. Very spacious and clean. But the Airtrain is not connected right now. So you have to catch a shuttle bus to the closest Airtrain stop. Not convenient, especially if you have kids or alot of bags.

EWR Terminal A location - I am a loyal Jimmy John’s customer and will continue to be as one location or experience should not tarnish all the great ones. However, the location within EWR terminal A has been an experience like no other. The front end team was very unprofessional using foul language amongst each other about their very own customers who can clearly hear them. Asking you to scream out your order while there are about 8 people ahead of you in line and then giving your customer an attitude because they cant hear you from afar and then getting ridiculed is a whole new level I have never experienced. If this was a brick and mortar location, it would not survive. Good thing they don’t depend on repeat customers.

Beautiful, modern, newly renovated terminal, but terrible customer experience. Staff is so unfriendly and unhelpful. Everything is very confusing and there is no one to advise. International cards were not accepted at the self check-ins, I was told I need an American card ( sorry, what???!) , Apple Pay is not working anywhere. So nice attempt to make it high-tech and modern, but there is still a huge room to improve.

The check-in baggage at the outside entrance was not working and no notices were posted informing the same. After waiting for sometime we had to go inside the terminal and check in at the counter

we had to get off of our flight in terminal B and then take the train down to the parking level and then go back inside and re-enter security for our next flight in Terminal A so what I thought would be a nice relaxing two hour break between our flights where we could get food, turn into a hectic navigation through Newark airport. terrible design

In the latest example of airline greed, we have Newark's terminal A. Now, the customer has the privilege of printing their own bag tags before aimlessly carrying their bags from line to line with little to no context of how they'll end up on the plane. Hopefully, the airline's dream of automatic baggage check will be short lived, as more frequently than not an actual human being is required anyway. This system simply does not work and only infuriates the customers more. Do better.

Horrible experience in terminal A at EWR. Had an international connecting flight arriving at terminal C transferring to terminal A. You’re required to take the Air Train and then walk literally 10 to 15 minutes with your luggage! Ridiculous. Elderly people and people with disabilities or wheelchairs had to pause several times on the way because there is hardly any automatic walkway. Then you get through security into the only United Club lounge. There is no shower. Service tries hard and is friendly, but the lounge is very small crowded. Coffee machine is spilling, only paper cups. It was a horrible experience. There are other options to connect and go through Washington or Houston for example. Next time I think twice to go through EWR.

Clear setup makes it slower than regular pre check. After going through Clear check, you still end up waiting behind five pre check people. Next, the automated boarding gate systems basically don’t work. People were standing for over a minute trying to get it to work. Similar systems have been working great across Europe for years. If you can’t ensure the fancy new tech actually works, it provides no value.

worst terminal at newark. how they can not make security an easy thing i have no idea. poor clear lines, not virtual tsa and the "new" machines are very slow and clunky. Terminal A security lines are the perfect example of what not to do at a new airport

Derek Katz ★★★★★

Great new terminal. Many smart people must have been hired for this job. Very well engineered, especially the toilets. Go Bills.

I wish I could give it a ZERO. I am disabled on a heart monitor. I was in a wheelchair and the United employees refused to push me then lied about having a supervisor on duty causing me to miss my flight. They then wouldn’t give me a voucher for a hotel or wheel me to an outlet and FORCED ME TO WALK

Jasmine Ledbetter ★ ★★★★

They don't have an announcer for flights, and they won't announce your flight status. Missed our flight because of this. Also employees will use family rooms which will make families late.
