What riders say
The general consensus is that the Allwood Park & Ride is a convenient and useful transit hub for traveling into New York City, though it suffers from significant parking and infrastructure issues. Reviewers appreciate the frequent bus service, punctual and comfortable rides into the city, affordable parking compared to New York City rates, and the ability to avoid city traffic and tolls. Conversely, negative feedback highlights that parking spaces are scarce and difficult to find on weekdays, the lot surface is damaged, and recent parking fee increases and payment systems cause frustration. Additional complaints mention traffic congestion when exiting the single-lane lots onto Allwood Road, a lack of restrooms, dark and dirty eastbound stops with no lighting or covered seating, passenger boarding limits, and NYC buses blocking the view of local routes.
Recent reviews
The parking is all damaged and outdated. They increased the parking almost double without a word. No wonder I see so many cars parked there without a ticket.
Clean and the bus ๐ service are on time to NYC
The park and ride is pretty good, bus service is another matter. The main issues are no restrooms, no covered seating for passengers heading away from NYC, single lane exits from the parking lots which causes delays when people need to wait to turn left, express buses still make a bunch of stops in Clifton and on route 3 (not truly express into NYC), and some dispatchers enforce a ridiculous 35 passenger limit on buses that stop here - meaning you have to wait for the next bus.
Allwood Park & Ride is a huge transit hub, both interstate and locally. It is served by five bus lines, four of which, the 191, 192, 195, and 199, service travel to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City, while the other bus route, the 705, travels locally between Passaic Bus Terminal and Willowbrook Mall. While in itself, the Park Ride is a handy place to get to where you're going, it also has numerous pitfalls. Parking is always at a premium, and finding a space on weekdays can be like trying to solve, to the last digit, the value of pi. First timers and infrequent users can have a devil of a time trying to figure out payment and spots. Then there is is the agony of trying to cross Allwood Road when everyone is trying to get out. Not much fun there. And on top of it all, the New York busses almost always screen the view of the 705 bus, which causes passengers to miss that bus. All told, great idea, but there are a lot of bugs in it.
Daily spaces are marked with โDโ and you need to buy parking which is $3 for the day. Buses came frequently at rush hour into NYC.
Allwood Park & Ride eastbound bus stop sucks. Beside being dirty there is zero light at night extremely dark and unsafe
Visit NYC once a year...can't believe they make you pay to park here! What a scam!
Not enough spots
Easy to get to the city.
Great place to park your vehicle and take NJ Transit into New York City.
A great place, actually excellent and convenient, if you want to go to NYC AND AVOID TRAFFIC and WASTE TIME LOOKING FOR PARKING. Here you can park your car safely and pay a minimal fee; not as high as in NYC, and you don't have to pay tolls. You take your bus to NYC; the buses are very comfortable, air-conditioned, and have plenty of space. You pay for your ticket at the machine, whether it's for a one-way trip or both. So yes, I recommend it. It's a safe place for your car and for you while waiting for the bus. They run very frequently, so the wait is short. It will take you to the terminal and close to the heart of NYC. ๐๐ค๐ฆ
